Nadia Lerner
I worked as a staff writer in the Features Department of The Advocate, a daily (Tribune-owned) newspaper in Stamford, CT from 1990 until 2007. My articles also appeared in our sister paper, Greenwich Time in Greenwich, CT.
As a generalist, I covered a wide range of topics including children's/women's/family issues; health/science; food; decorating/fashion; arts and entertainment. I also wrote for The Advocate's in-house decorating magazine "Home," published six times a year.
My articles were frequently picked up by wire services, appearing in such newspapers as the Los Angeles Times; Washington Post; Chicago Tribune; The (Bergen, NJ) Record; Milwaukee Journal Sentinel; Seattle Times; Hartford Courant; Oakland Tribune; Sacramento Bee; Topeka Capital Journal; Amarillo Globe and even The Kathmandu Post in Nepal.
Over the years, I conducted interviews with celebrities including Matt Lauer, George Carlin, Lynn Redgrave, Joanne Woodward, Ian Anderson and Manny Potamkin. As a food writer, I had the opportunity to interview superchefs Julia Child, Jacques Pepin, Mario Batali and Michael Chiarello. I also interviewed numerous performing artists such as Renata Scotto, Helene Grimaud, Andre Michel Schub and Sarah Chang.
In 2006, my Features' Department associates and I won the Excellence in Journalism Contest of the Society of Professional Journalists, Connecticut Chapter. We earned the award for our Feature Series "Road to the Oscars."
In 1997, I co-edited the Zagat Guide with Valerie Foster, covering Connecticut and Southern New York State.
